We took our Animal Children to the SPA !!

Anyone in the Oregon, McMinnville area. If you are looking to get your pets Groomed, Boarded, Daycare this is the place for you! Great with Animals; the experience was top notch. The place was extremely clean.. My 2 Dogs Maggie and Friday were happy as clams! After we went to leave, my dog Friday turned around and went back in.. That is saying something because Friday is afraid of everyone.. THANK YOU SO MUCH; Pet
stop Inn :) We will be back.

Friday just drank a bunch of water and of course his beard gets all in it..

Maggie loves to stand or sit in the windowsill. That is her favorite place to be. Well we call her a kitty kitty, I guess she lives up to her name, along with her purring that is.

Going to see the Cape Meares Lighthouse

Stacks of the logs they get when they cut down all these beautiful trees.

It's very sad to see the bare land where the trees once were. Some areas are real bad!

Captain John Meares was the first to sail into Tillamook Bay, naming it Quick Sand Bay because of the mud at low tide. Captain Robert Gray was the first American on the scene and he called it Murderers Harbor because one of his crew was killed by natives there.

The lighthouse was built in 1889 and commissioned on January 1, 1890. The tower stands 38 feet high and is the shortest lighthouse in Oregon. It is constructed of bricks (made right on site at a cost of $2,900) with iron plates covering it. The original addition that now houses the interpretive shop was a work room built in 1895 - the current interpretive shop replaced the original work room in 1978.

The light was a five wick oil lamp with a reflector to increase the light. It was turned by a 200 pound lead weight that was wound by a system similar to a grandfather clock. It turned 2 ½ hours on one winding at a pace of 4 minutes per full revolution. The lens and iron housing weighed two tons complete. The two oil storage buildings held 3,240 gallons of oil in five gallon cans and were located east of the lighthouse. The walls were made 15 inches thick to protect the area from the danger of fire in the buildings.

The lens is a first order Fresnel (pronounced "Fraynel") lens made in Paris, France. It was shipped around Cape Horn, up the west coast to Cape Meares and then hauled 217 feet up the cliff by a wooden crane that was built from local timbers native to the area. It is an eight-sided lens with 4 primary lenses and 4 bull's-eye lenses with red panels covering the bull's-eye lenses. It produced about 30 seconds of fixed white light from the primary lens followed by a red flash of 5 seconds from the bull's-eye lens once every minute. This was the signature of Cape Meares Lighthouse. The primary lens produced 18,000 candlepower and the bull's-eye lens produced 160,000 candlepower. The light could be seen 21 nautical miles at sea.

The oil lamp was replaced in 1910 with an oil vapor light similar to the Coleman lanterns of today. This was replaced in 1934 with electricity produced by generators and eventually by central power. The light today is automated and produces 57,000 candle power. It is located in a building adjacent to the historic structure.

The keepers houses were located where the parking lot and kiosk are now situated. The houses cost $26,000 to build. The lighthouse was decommissioned in 1963, stood vacant for a number of years and was heavily vandalized.

In 1963, the lighthouse was deactivated and replaced by a newer tower. The following year, the Coast Guard made plans to demolish the light. However, due to public outcry, the plans fell through, and the Coast Guard turned the station over to Tillamook County. The light remained vacant until 1968, when the site was turned over to the Oregon State Parks Department. During this time, vandalism became a major problem for the light. Eventually, the vandalism took its toll on the keeper's quarters and they were subsequently demolished. Among the damage, four of the bulls-eyes in the Fresnel lens were stolen. That same year, the light was opened up to the public and the light was restored, with the exception of the missing bulls-eyes. Since then, three of the four missing bulls-eyes have been recovered. And in 1980, the tower itself was opened to the public.

Between the afternoon of January 9 and noon on January 10, 2010 an unknown vehicle reportedly drove down a blocked maintenance road to the lighthouse viewing area. A number of rounds were fired, breaking 15 of the lighthouse's windows and several parts of the historic Fresnel lens. Additional rounds were fired into a nearby active Coast Guard light and surrounding equipment. While driving off the maintenance road the suspect vehicle also caused significant damage to a grassy area. Damages were initially estimated to be over $50,000, but subsequent inspections have shown it may cost more than $500,000 to repair the lens. A park ranger stated that the lens was created in Paris in 1888 and had been shipped around the tip of South America to Oregon. Early news reports stated a $1,000 reward was being offered for information leading to arrests, a figure which was raised to $3,000 by the evening of January 11.2010. On February 10,2010 two Oceanside men, Zachary Jon Pyle, age 23 and David Regin Wilks Jr., age 26, were arrested in connection with the vandalism. At the time of the arrests the reward figure had climbed to $6,000.

We are staying in Oregon until July 1st now because I am having a TMJ flare-up

We were suppose to be in Yellowstone by now but I'm spoiling our trip by having a TMJ flare-up.

I am being treated by my daughter Dana's dentist right now and Jim didn't want to get on the road until I started to improve. What a wonderful husband I have. :)

Definition:
By Mayo Clinic staff

( Temporomandibular joint )
TMJ disorders cause tenderness and pain in the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) — the joint on each side of your head in front of your ears, where your lower jawbone meets your skull. This joint allows you to talk, chew and yawn.

TMJ disorders can be caused by many different types of problems — including arthritis, fibromyalgia, jaw injury, or muscle fatigue from clenching or grinding your teeth.

In most cases, the pain and discomfort associated with TMJ disorders can be alleviated with self-managed care or nonsurgical treatments. Severe TMJ disorders may need to be treated with dental or surgical interventions.

TMJ causes moderate to severe pain including:

Pain or tenderness of your jaw
Aching pain in and around your ear
Difficulty chewing or discomfort while chewing
Aching facial pain
Locking of the joint, making it difficult to open or close your mouth
Migraine Headaches
Cluster Headaches
Uncomfortable bite
Itching in your ear
An uneven bite, because one or more teeth are making premature contact

Strawberry Picking (eating) and Swimming was our day today :)

Dana, Savannah, Jim and I went to pick Strawberries today :) Here in Oregon there are a lot farms that you can go and pick your own fruits. You get them at a cheaper price and you can eat some while you pick. NOW that's what I call shopping!! :)

Savannah had the whole pool to herself today, that gave her plenty of space to goof around. Savannah has Dana's personality. She's always uplifting and goofy, she can keep you laughing :)
